not quite globalization

I was in Montreal for the past four years from 2003 to 2007. The relocation to Beijing gave me an insight into certain aspects of daily life that the world is NOT as "flat" as some people would think.

Two cases in point:

1) the fruits available for sale on the street or at the markets. The prices and variety do reflect whether a particular product is in season or not. Unlike the supermarkets in Montreal, at times you cannot really tell anymore what season it is when you look at the produce available.

第二點是公共空間的使用。在香港或蒙特利爾，一般的情 影下是很少會有人在公眾地方跳舞的。在中國很多地方公眾地方還是屬於平民大眾的, 比方在北京什剎海跳舞的人。我想這一點就很值得其他國家學習。


像世貿天階這樣大的屏幕，你們覺得這是一個善用公共空間的例子嗎?


L'espace public sert les citoyens. De temps en temps dans les grandes métropoles, les entreprises occupent ces endroits en déplaçant les gens ordinaires. C'est assez rafraîchissant à voir les habitants s'amusent dans un lieu public, soit danser, ou chanter. Cela donne une caractéristique importante d'une communauté.
