政改方案

對於一個我不是常常在香港的人來說，這幾個月關於香港立法局的新聞既多且烈。媒體把正反雙方的新聞炒得火烈。六月廿三、廿四和廿五我由於開會的關係經過中環，因利乘便在反政改的陣營坐坐聽聽。不單是八十後，也有上了年紀的退休人士參與聆聽和發言。二十三號晚是下著雨的，而這些參與者也沒有支持陣營的免費飯或其他資助下自願到來聲援這反（畸形特權功能組別）政改的社會運動。論據聽得很多很多，其中立法會議員何秀蘭（見下）:

婆婆 Grand-mère

媽媽中午一個電話來說，婆婆（外祖母）已經“走”了。是笑喪，因她九十有七，雖不如宋美齡，但也算是一場馬拉松競技的終點。自從她於二零零三年SARS爆發時因消化系統有毛病要入醫院，到後來要搬進老人院，到這一年差不多甚麽人也不認得的時候，我們身邊的親戚：舅父家，亞姨家大慨也有點兒心酸的。

慈祥、和藹可親、從不發脾氣。。。。。。一連串正面的形容詞絡繹不絕浮現腦海中。婆婆在我兒時記憶中大部分時間住在山谷道邨，那是跟從前牛頭角同年代、但結構像後石硤尾邨年代的“H”型樓。（H中間的“一橫”是住戶公用廁所）。農曆年初一多半是她的兒孫：舅父、亞姨、姨媽家和我們家等等聚在一起回巢的日子。八十年代那居高臨下、無敵海景的維港煙花，那龐大而緩緩升降的電梯、地下的小商店、愛民邨的大排檔和用表哥那綠色monitor第一代的IBM clone PC“打遊戲機”等等不少的美好回憶，也跟婆婆和姨媽家十年前的搬遷和山谷道邨拆卸而成為歷史。姨媽早幾個月前登極樂，政府2010年六月把山谷道邨地盤變豪宅地賣掉，婆婆於數日後仙遊；緩慢的歷史巨輪彷彿突然加速，啊我童年的獅子山下印象，只能零碎地在心中尋找。

So officially both of my parents are orphans now after the passing of my maternal grandmother. Yes, it is weird to commence this posting in such a way, but that's one of the first mental reflections to the news.

To be fair, she and my step paternal grandmother were the only two granparents whom I was fortunately enough to spend time with. My paternal grandmother was killed during the bombing of Hong Kong in Second World War. My granfathers both passed away before I was born. I think both my grandmothers had difficult young adult life, though their lives were improved even before I was born.

Valley Road Estate was the anchor point for much of my childhood memories of maternal grandma. Ironically, that plot of land of the former housing estate was sold at an astronomical price to a real estate developer for construction of an expensive residential complex, just a few days before my grandma's passing. Nostalgia, of course of the extended family gatherings at grandmas, with uncles and aunts teasing me never want to leave my parents and to stay at my grandma's even for a night, versus my subsequent departure from Hong Kong and my parents for almost 2 decades. Also, were the spectacular images, as well as thundering explosions of Chinese new year fireworks at the end of the corridor, FREE OF CHARGE and OBSTRUCTION FREE, on the very top 11th floor of the humble Low Cost Housing Estate building. Time is unforgiving, burying grandma and these good memories as she was three year short of being a centenarian.

不一定是嶺南文化的專利，但是廣州、香港從前到處可見，可擋雨，防晒的建築特色現在買少見少了。更加可貴的，是這店前車水馬龍、客似雲來

"kei lau" are low-rises popular but not limited in Guangdong provinces where the covered walkway underneath shield passers-by from rain and sun while providing a customer-friendly store front on the ground floor. These buildings are rapidly disappearing due to gentrification and (over)developing, be it Canton(Guangzhou) or Hong Kong.

If It Works, Don't Fix It! Actually, if you are the Urban Renewl Authority (of Hong Kong), you should! However, the "fix" should ONLY be helping the existing landlords and tenents, rather than stealing from them and feeding the levelled plots of land to real estate developers. Haven't you heard of Décroissance from the radical Frenchies? Une terre si densément peuplée comme Hong Kong n'a pas besoin de développement. Comment renouveler ou régénérer les structures en voie de veillissement devrait être la priorité. Les gratte-ciel monstrueux qui coupent la circulation de l'air et les réseaux communautaires, NON, ne pas les rajouter SVP.

六四廿一後記

我二十一年來的第二次參加的六四聚會（去年是第一次，因我八九年十月離港後很少於夏天在港）。去年我是下午急急的坐動車組從廣州回來，入場是已經很晚。這回有點空閒時間，於是從記利佐治街行人專用區進入。路上滿是街頭藝術家的表演藝術。血、六四等是重複的主題。不少人也和我一樣拍了照片，希望民眾的行動和反思不此是停留在“留下紀念”的層面上。

La deuxième fois dans 21 ans que j'ai occasion de participer la commémoration du massacre à Carré Tiananmen le 4 juin 1989 où des milliers d'étudiants, de travaillers, de concitoyens ont perdu leurs vies aux feux de l'armé chinoise. Comme j'avais un peu de temps supplémentaire cette année, je me suis promenadé sur Great George Street. Cette zone piétonnière a été prise par les artistes dan la rue qui l'ont transformé aux théâtres en plein air. Le seul endroit en Chine continentale où on peut manifester ouvertement bien que les pressions politiques ne cessent à menacer la liberté civile. Une goutte de confort dedans le dessert - la présence de participants était la plus forte que jamais pendant cette histoire de 21 ans.

The militant artwork or performances leading the way into Victoria Park were eery, morbid and not rated PG-13. After all, why should we feel comfortable if we haven't righted our wrongs? If there was any consolation to the big business and government's unfortunate and "move-on" attitude towards this bloody and sad saga in modern Chinese history, it belonged to the 100 000 plus strong people who overfilled the streets leading to as well as inside Victoria Park.

香港最近在政改方案的討論上有個別聲音（官方、政黨和市民)說爭拗不利香港的民主發展？！？哈，這是人一定是過著與世隔絕living under a rock 的生活。君不見五、一在蒙特利爾的示威，甚至社區人士準備六月份到多倫多反對G8/G20的示威。反對聲音在多元、民主的社會是一個永恆的現象！

聽Bloomberg金融新聞節目裡的分析師只顧評論長遠來說BP的股票會怎樣怎樣，真是萬分匪夷所思。難道真如if it was my home (如果是我家)網站的諷刺，不是我們家就不管了嗎？是事不關己，己不勞心耶？可是要我們改變舒服的日常生活，用少一點水、電(從而減少對礦物燃料的消耗)等易說難做的事是談何容易。

六四廿一周年

早陣子鋪天蓋地關於五區公投的新聞，令我忽視一件負面但意義深遠的事件。朋友告訴我北京愛知行研究所負責人萬延海已經於五月逃離中國。這對預防愛滋病無疑是一個沉重的打擊。大家可能已忘記去年八十多高齡的高耀潔醫生亦逃到美國。這些維權人士的離開，對改善他們關注的社會問題絕對沒好處可言。

另一方面，創作「天安門屠殺浮雕」及「新民主女神像」的六四雕塑藝術家陳維明來港被拒入境，這已經不是香港政府第一次有這樣的行徑。似乎香港政府和市民再不能對從前澳門拒香港立法局議員或港大法律教授入境嘩然。天下烏鴉一樣黑，兩個特區政府也一樣黑。

這個六四，有良知的你，能做點甚麽嗎？

世界杯來了 Coupe du Monde arrive

世界杯來了,也是一些人每四年的一個月內睡眠不足的時候。

年初在香港深圳雙城展裡看過一個名叫G.O.A.L. 2010的海報，展示的其中一個綜合球場、社區中心甚至診所於一身的多用途中心的設計。今屆世界杯的官方項目是建二十個在貧窮地區建二十個這樣的綜合中心。

看看FIFA的網站發現這2010年20中心計劃還是在很初步的階段，希望主辦單位和各合作機構能把握世人注意力集中在世界杯的時候落實項目的資金和細節，好讓這有意義的社區項目得以完成。

Le Coupe du Monde m'a fait un premier passage en février 2010, lorsque j'ai vu des affiches à la Hong Kong Shenzhen Biennale. Il y avait un dessin pour un des centres de la campagne 20 centres pour 2010 y compris un terrain de soccer, un centre comunautaire, même une clinique sur le même endroit. Un plan ambitieux, sauf que des quelques photos démontrent que le projet est encore au début de plannification ou exécution. Etant donné que plusieurs footballeurs sont les millionaires et cet événement attire tellement attention du monde, l'organisation FIFA, le pays hôte - Afrique du Sud et leurs partenaires doivent essayer plus fort pour s'assurer la réalisation des projets, avant que l'interêt public les quitte après la competition.

寫了幾次中、英的語言問題，這次來個中、法的例子吧。其實崇洋的香港，像這條目的例子多不勝數。想想你花幾百萬買了一套房，才發現那拉丁文寫的外語名字是不知所謂的話，也許要找發展商退款耶？

到目前為止，若不提命名的怪現象，屋苑的環境還是不錯的。

Continuant sur la série "perdu en traduisant", la première fois en français-chinois. Le nom de ce développement résidentiel a une version française qui donne aucun sens. Néanmoins, c'est assez commun à Hong Kong car les appellations étrangères portent toujours un air chic. Une comparaison cruelle si vous me permettez, les rouleau impériaux servis dans les restos "chinois" d'outre-mer, seraient-ils également populaires en Chine?

國際歌在香港

五月十四號晚上陰差陽錯下我走進為五月十六日五區公投的的造勢大會,本想留幾分鐘變成看完整個聚會。意外的是尾聲播放的國際歌。在非社會主義下成長的我第一次聽到國際歌是1989年北京的學運，那次運動的結果是好是壞不用我多說了。如果我秉承近來迷信的作風來看這公投運動，那這次國際歌的再現對前景是不樂觀的。然而陳方安生，李柱銘，甚至我一般沒甚麽感覺的宗教團體--天主教的已退休的陳日君樞機都在選舉那天出來支持，那投了票的五十多萬“少眾”並不是太孤單的。

造勢大會當晚播了宣傳片《十八仝人撐公投》 (短片見下)。其中有本地香港人可能不留意到，但在內地人氣比香港高很多的時事、文化評論員--梁文道也參與廣告演出。希望他不會消失在鳳凰衛視吧，有良知、肯承擔的人雖不是鳳毛麟角，也不至於俯拾皆是。

最後要一提的是向政務司長唐英年說政府高官不投票是壞榜樣的庇理羅士女子中學吳美蘭老師。官校（即政府學校）的老師能這樣有骨氣，不是月薪比她高十倍的高官能雙題並論的。當吳老師說“我要有權選特首”時，在場的學生掌聲雷動，這大概是最好的安慰! Neil Postman 說過 Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see. 兒童是我們送往我們看不見的未來的口訊。年輕人未被蒙蔽，未來還有希望。

汶川兩週年

今天汶川兩週年。去年我有機會看過艾曉明教授的
《我們的娃娃》和《公民調查》。這兩齣劇能提供關於汶川地震的資料比所有主流媒體還要多。

今年的五一勞動節是草根的血汗建給有財有勢的國際博覽會開幕；今年的五四是溫家寶在馴服了的北大作秀。2008有汶川和奧運，2010有玉樹和世博，迷信的我希望多些人能看和反思艾曉明教授的紀錄片裡的信息，希望《公民調查》裡譚作人快點從獲自由。

多少個六年

開始老餅和感情用事的人常常會自言自語說人生有幾個十年。最近我們一班小學同學於十五年來第一次聚會。六年同一間小學，對我們大部分人來說比中學、大學等時間要長。更重要的是小孩子沒有私心，而且我們長大的新界從前是小社區，所以人際關係很簡單。同學間人生經歷各有不同，大部分已為人父母。然而小學年代的童真，是維繫我們十多、二十多年沒見的友誼。感慨的是三位出席晚宴的老師，在我們兒時的他們也許像我們現在的壯年；二十八年逝去，如今雖不至老態龍鍾，但其中兩位已達古稀之年。歲月如是不留情面。舊同學們有一個打算--兩年後我們便畢業三十週年，那時一定要召集比今次十六個同學更多人參加慶祝。老師說得對，不要等甚麽五年、十年的紀念日，有空便出來聚聚吧。

星巴克 Bring your own tumbler

Starbucks a organisé une journée de café gratuit, étant donné les consommateurs apportent leurs propres tasses ou "tumbler". J'ai appris cette offre grâce à un ami. Nous nous sommes présentés dans un succursale en profitent cette promotion. En observant les clients, seulement une femme a porté sa tasse. Ma conclusion sur cet événement? Soit les gens qui sont assez riches à fréquenter les Starbucks ne pensent jamais d'environnement ou la campagne de publicité était un échec. Changer des comportements des consommateurs, ça prend plus que une journée d'un geste nominal.

星巴克的免費咖啡日，參加的寥寥可數。那天除了我朋友和我兩人自己帶咖啡mug嘆咖啡之外，環顧整間咖啡店只有另一位女士自備她的tumbler。看來大概是有錢嘆咖啡的人不關心環保，要不然就是星巴克的宣傳不夠。無論如何，能消費的，他們的生態足跡必定較大。看來企業和消費者皆需要努力，否則這只是自圓其說的公關手段，不能成為長遠的環保措施。

So Starbucks had this Bring Your Own Tumbler day on which you get a free serving of coffee. Like my friend's sister is always on top of freebies we were timely informed. On sipping our coffee at Starbucks that day, I realised that it was a half-assed compaign. because the lack of promotion and advertisement of the offer or people who spend a small fortune equivalent of a Big Mac or local Chinese fastfood meal on a cup of expresso, couldn't care less about this event. We found apart from us bring our own coffe mugs, only one lady was seen arrivng with her tumbler. Bummer! If the company aims to instill a sense of responsibility on its customers, this has been a rough start to a long road ahead.

早幾天說狄娜，大家知否她有一個已變性(女變男)的兒子？無聊的我搜索一下後，驚訝地發現香港竟有一個由“前同性戀” 輔導員提供給專業輔導人員的講座。在一些國家已認同同性婚姻和社會運動對跨性別/變性者更關注的時候，香港竟來過大倒退。負責這講座的亞洲專業輔導協會和背後的香港樹仁大學真令我失望。更可笑的亞洲專業輔導協會的網站標明其使命是：

帶領輔導專業發展，成為一個在香港以至亞太地區輔導專業的領導團體，被社會人士、各地政府都確認為執業輔導員的具權威性協會。

若果他們不毒害新一代的輔導員和同志便以德高無量了。
這不禁令我想起二十世紀初美國冷泉港實驗室(Cold Sping Harbor Laboratory)曾經是優生學(Eugenics)的重鎮。優生學是甚麼，想想第二次世界大戰的希特勒和猶太人吧。從優生學到國際一流的生物、醫學實驗室是180度的大轉變。終有一天這些無聊的治療會被廢止，但先必在別的“前衛”社會面前貽笑大方而後榮。唉，這些搞治療的“專家”真羞家！也許這些專家們應先向香港小童群益會取經。

When country after country are legalising same-sex marriage, and, the social justice movement of LGBT people has been returning the spotlight to the INjustice still plaguing transgender, transvestites, gender non-conforming or the pansexual members of the community, APCA is on the path to raise Hong Kong's status as a laughing-stock for other progressive societies.

Given enough time, these kind of radiculous therapies will be obsolete. My worry is that they will be around to "harm" another generation of LGBTs and counselors as well before subsiding. My 2 cents to the "professionals" - read up on Michel Foucault's Histoire de la sexualité or the cultural construct nature of gender before dispensing nocive advices please! Perhaps it's the APCA and company whom need to be str8en out.

綠色和平和雀巢之戰 Greenpeace dénonce Nestlé

中國大陸和臺灣的報紙和網站對綠色和平組織 (Greenpeace) 針對雀巢 (Nestlé)的Kit Kat 巧克力餅乾於三月份發動的社交媒體攻勢皆有報道，唯獨是香港的媒體隻字不提。這間接地告訴大家香港的環保意識比不上大陸和臺灣。亞洲國際都會還要擴大她的視野。

這有創意但亦“核突”(廣東話的惡心)的短片會令你改變消費模式嗎？

Une campagne de vidéo virale de Greenpeace contre Kit Kat de Nestlé a vraiment pertubé cette dernière et a généré assez de buzz dans des médias variés, même ceux de la Chine continentale et de Taïwan. Néanmois, les journaux ou sites web hongkongais restent plutôt silencieux. Cela vous dit quelques mots de notre progrès (ou le manque de) sur la sensibilisation du public face aux enjeux environmentaux. La ville internationale en Asie doit élargir sa vision encore.

大軍閥

狄娜死掉，無線在深夜播放她有份參演的大軍閥。我從沒有看過她的戲。年少時我上小學，能理解甚麼是電影的時候，她已息影了。另一方面，聽說她是肉彈，爸媽當然不會貿然推薦她的作品。

其實狄娜在這齣電影像一個拋媚眼的花瓶，跟那年代的法國女星碧姬芭鐸不忘多樣,當然前者去世時的花容還保養得比後者好幾百倍。

李翰祥，不愧為大導演。他送給觀眾的，有鹹濕的一面：狄娜的銅體任君看；也有野史裏發人心省的比喻：送給日本人的白狗“富士山”哇啦哇啦的被大軍閥做美食，另一方面董瑋演的黑狗，被拿去槍斃。

龐大虎審案時亂打亂撞而又準確地知悉胡錦色演的高白氏誣告小叔強姦，其叫手下當眾試圖強姦來證明真假更是一絕。
龐大虎對歌女的色迷迷、講話時的鄉音（粵語版裏他是配了台山話，香港的方言歧視不言而喻）和現實生活裏近代中國（即晚清到現在）的流氓政客，暴發戶的自以為是也不忘多樣。何莉莉的歌女、烈女從失去至親到復仇，也可看作中國近代亂七八糟的一世紀的揶揄。

如果你是愛國的中國人，請不要太認真地看這片子，要不然這荒唐而嬉笑怒罵表面，會勾起你遺忘了對無辜而苦難的中國人的同情心。

the initials DXC definitely represent "da xue cheng" 大學成... but it doesnt really make sense to me as if this is a cram school or cram school for youngsters aiming for majoring in Fine Arts, or? The English and Chinese texts point at different directions with no mention of "arts" in the English text. Hmmm must be the work of a two-headed beast in the PR department of this SME.

當代MOMA

環保建築？對社區開放？這是建築師Steven Holl 在介紹 “當代MOMA”(又稱Linked Hybrid)時期中的賣點。這的建築群坐落在北京的東二環和北二環的拐彎點。去年在冰封的十二月我到裏面的電影院時第一次親眼看見它。雖然建築師說是對居民和附近社區開放的中央廣場能凝聚社區氣氛，但個人經驗告訴我事實并不如此。我每次進入廣場往中心的電影院途中皆有警衛問我去哪里。試想想是完全對社區開放的話，幹嘛問我去哪？又如果我穿得像個民工？又如果我外貌不像漢族？你們猜猜結果會怎樣？建築物的外觀是新鮮的，但它是環保或融合社區與否則有待時間的考驗。

Yea, this "當代MOMA" thingy, or Linked Hybrid, according to its architect Steven Holl is supposed to be environmentally friendly and equipped with a plaza that is OPEN to all, not just the residents of the complex. However, during my first séjour at the complex for some film screenings during two frigid winter days in December 2009, I was asked by security guards of my purpose being at the complex. That sure says a lot of the openess claimed by the architect in the description of its project. Yes, the complex won some award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in 2009, but whether it is really environmentally friendly and open to the public remains to be proven in the future. Architectually, having grown up and lived in various cities with numerous skyscrapers, the merely visual stimulation was a breath of fresh air for me.

很久以前看見關於贫富悬殊的文章,也提到香港沒最低工資的保障。

香港立法局的張宇人議員必定是跟從前的皇帝一樣不知民間疾苦。港幣二十元的時薪，他一定沒有看過我這張一年多前在北京拍攝到的塗鴉作品。

“廿蚊”在百物騰貴的香港不一定買到碗肉粥。

成都的錦里，不管是片粉、糖油果子、老成都春卷、四喜甜點，抑或是香辣涼糕、混糖涼糕、蒸蒸糕、葉兒粑、竹葉牛肉，這裏賣的不盡是本地小吃。我就在這喝了一碗五塊的紅豆粥，廣府人稱紅豆沙。單看顏色亦能使你垂涎三尺呢。

法國人也要趕潮流？要不然今年的法語節的十個生詞裏有幾個與資訊科技有關:
cheval de troie(特洛伊木馬)，mobile(移動)，"zapper"， baladeur (即英語的 "Walkman")，等等。。。如你不知後者是甚麼，也許應給人"zappe"一下的懲罰！哈哈。

In Quebecois French, baladeur and radiodiffusion merge into baladodiffusion, which means podcasting. Ain't that a very cool jargon? Baladodiffusion should have been on the list rather than baladeur.

早陣子聽了一個關於香港交通的講座。講者是香港博物館的榮譽顧問鄭寶鴻先生。拿了筆寫下某些資料，跟大家分享一些鮮為人知的趣聞吧。

登山纜車曾經名為登山火車、電車。1888年第一代是用蒸氣的。1926、1950和現在分別是第二、三和四代。
的士曾是得士急，那是Taxi cab的翻譯。
地鐵的名字也是經過不同的爭辯才放棄地車這詞（當中也有政治的成分)。而其中三個站的名稱Argyle，Waterloo和Chater你能猜出今天叫甚麼嗎？
1950年前降落啟德機場的多是水機。1962年建成的客運大樓從來不夠應用。
新浦崗爵祿街從前是飛機著陸的地方。
1965年夏愨道Harcourt Road是豎立了第一座天橋。
1927年引入交通燈，而交通亭在1970代末才淘汰。
1930、40年代已有建海底隧道的構思，最終1972才落成。通車禮挑選了肥肥是覺得她會帶來福氣吧。

翻翻我2009年拍到的一張活動海報，發現尖碼之聲，一個反對遷拆尖沙咀碼頭巴士總站團體的網站。真希望政府從天星、皇后碼頭等事件中吸取教訓，避免再導致另一個保育戰場的產生。

Howard Zinn passed away on Jan 28, 2010. No, my google news feed page that I open almost religiously on a daily basis did not alert me to the sad news. I was busy preparing my trip back home for Chinese New Year that I did not learn about it until more than a month and a half later when I was reading an education listserv on U. S. Government and Politics. More than ten years ago I gave colder than lukewarm response when a friend of mine recommended me his book: A People's History of the United States. My friend even xeroxed Chapter One for me. I am glad that I read it, for calling the book an eye opener to me is an understatement.

Zinn started Chapter 12 The Empire and the People with:

Theodore Roosevelt wrote to a friend in the year 1897: "In strict confidence . . . I should welcome almost any war, for I think this country needs one."

while this paragraph from Chapter 24 The Coming Revolt of the Guards:

One percent of the nation owns a third of the wealth. The rest of the wealth is distributed in such a way as to turn those in the 99 percent against one another: small property owners against the propertyless, black against white, native-born against foreign-born, intellectuals and professionals against the uneducated and unskilled. These groups have resented one another and warred against one another with such vehemence and violence as to obscure their common position as sharers of leftovers in a very wealthy country.

clearly struck a chord with me. Whether you are from the third world, or the first or industrialised world, the developing South or the developed North, rich or poor, East or West, (former and existing or defacto) colony or (part of any) declining or ascending empire, regardless of your political leanings, you are bound to relate to some, if not many of the points made in this book.

May Zinn's spirit continues like an eternal flame, under downpours or sandstorms or sunshine.

今天三八，早兩天有幸在國際法語節和香港獨立短片及錄像比賽的聯合短片節目內看到法國導演和攝影家Agnès Varda的幾套紀錄片。Réponse de femmes (女人的回答)是她一九七五年的作品。赤裸的女體、穿衣不穿衣、生不生孩子、女性作為廣告裏的賣點、母親、丈夫、兩性關係、性、慾等等都在一連串快速的問答中提及。過去兩年我皆去了有關婦女節的講座，今年看過這短片以後不去了。這片子也提供了額外的博客寫作題材，我本來想寫的女性科學家也許要留待明年了。

Réponse de femmes, le court-métrage, pas leur réponse en général, a boulversé mon plan orginal d'une pièce sur les scientifiques féminines à l'occasion de la Journée internationale des femmes. Réalisé en 1975, cet ouvrage d'Agnès Varda a donné de paroles aux quelques femmes at a soulevé des enjeux. Malheureusement, ces derniers n'ont pas cédé leurs pertinence à l'heure actuelle. Vu d'une perspective chinoise, des montages de corps féminins nus doit être considéré choquant sinon également progressif!

International Womyn's Day... I had an idea in mind about writing on some female scientists. That would have to sit in the garage til probably next year after I incidentally went to a screening of French photographer and film director Agnès Varda's shorts including Réponse de femmes. A rapid firing of Q&As, staged as well as with random strangers on the streets highlighted many of the issues in 1975. Many of which such as women as sex objects, sexual desires, relationship between the two sexes, role as mother or wife are unfortunately still relevant today, thirty-five years later.

Officiellement trois jours sur le calendrier à Hong Kong, depuis les décennies. Mais pour les PMEs dont le nouvel an chinois est la seule période où tout le monde, c'est-à-dire les patrons et les salariés，ont leurs congés payés, cela peut varier. J'était ravi d'avoir vu plusieurs ont affiché le 7ème, le 9ème, etc. comme la rentrée. Les domaines ne sont JAMAIS des magasins de vêtements ou des restaurants. Ils sont ouverts parfois tout le long du nouvel an chinois si l'achalandage tient suffisamment haut ou important pour eux. Les grossistes, les marchands en gros, ou les quincailleries ont plutôt des longues vacances. Le cas extrème que j'ai noté rentre au 15ème!

How many days you can have for Chinese New Year? Three days for most industries but a few lucky ones can enjoy their extended time away til the 7th or 9th day after the new year. The longest I saw this year had the 12th day written as their re-entry! This is probably the ONLY time they got off for the year though.

2009-10的香港深圳雙城展的香港部份於二月底完滿結束，閉幕前我才匆匆趕去看。今次地點沒有2007-08的舊中央警局那麼方便，因為是在荒蕪的西九龍填海區。戶外有的是空間，但空間太大和分散，加上經過一個多月的風雨洗禮後，部份展品也“走了”樣。
I literally dashed to see the closing of the Hong Kong portion of the 2009-10 Hong Kong-Shenzhen Biennale. The exhibition site this time is the open air, still very much barren and yet-to-be West Kowloon Cultural District, reclaimed land from sea in the past decade or so. One of the exhibit was a model of those cage-home style flats in the former Kowloon Walled City.

其中一個“模型”是已經拆掉的九龍城寨，這樣的龍屋在深水埗等區還有的。This type of housing still exist to this date, in areas like Sham Shui Po. The challenge for the government is do help improve the extremely crammed living environment of residents in these buildings and yet avoiding the preying eyes of various real estate developers which have been contributing so much to the gentrification of this city.

但是其中的口號“捍衛香港文化”是不是代表我們不應改善居民的生活環境呢？我想更重要的是怎樣避免和抗衡發展商虎視眈眈市中心的旺地的態度呢？這是對政府能否成功改善民生的挑戰。

Les campagnes de réduction des risques sanitaires de cet organisme nous inspire toujours. Malheursement, cet esprit ouvert nous manque encore dans plusieurs sociétés 'hypocrites' ou 'religieuses'. En tout cas, amusez-vous bien avec deux autres vidéos en dessous.

這樣減低風險(harm reduction)的策略在“保守”和講“假禮教”的社會是未能看見的。在資訊爆炸的年代，怎樣喚起和維持大眾對公眾健康議題的關注是這些社會服務和醫療機構恒久的挑戰。AIDES 的廣告皆是精心傑作，以下的兩個動畫便是好例子。

Unfortunately, this video would be considered racy in many parts of the world. Owing to cultural and religious or tons of other pretexts, "harm reduction" is still an unknown vocabulary in many public health prevention discourses. There is still a long road ahead. 虎年新願望西暦新年時的希望是另類和諧，雖然希望還在，但最近的負面新聞如劉曉波、譚作人等等使我覺得離“世界大同”還是路遠而不可及。加上看了艾曉明教授的《我們的娃娃》和《公民調查》两套紀錄片，心情不能平復是自然的！

我的願望，要“口禾皆言”不要“和諧”。。。。。。人人能發言、人人有飽飯吃不是那麼容易做到的！
中國不但在人口總數上，而且在經濟和政治的層面上已是堂堂大國。因此不應在商業方面沖暈頭腦，而是應進一步容許不同聲音和細心聆聽。

la méthode Cyrano?

Disait l'Agente matrimoniale dans le film italiano de même titre. L'agent dont une de ses clients a tombé amoureuse en mélangant son identité avec celle d'autre client. Sa référence sur 'Cyrano' relie l'autre film français, Cyrano de Bergerac, dont j'ai vu recemment. Dans une ère de l'inondation de donées inutiles, dit youtwitface.com, c'est de plus en plus rare qu'un admirateur écrit si tant de lettres émouvantes et rafinées. La version cinématique montre notre héros Cyrano comme un homme polyvalent, même son manque de confiance sur son apparence semblant crédule. Par contre, un fait rafraîchissant à noter, l'Agente Montrimoniale est le premier depuis si longtemps que aucun caractère féminin a exposé son sein! N'est-ce pas que le progrès pour l'égalité de sexes?

l'Agente matrimoniale 是小品意大利愛情片-失業漢在朋友半推半就下開辦的一間婚姻介紹所。在其中一個顧客錯把婚姻“專家”當成約會的人。然而“專家”再不自覺下對顧客發生好感時，他便要將錯就錯的用頗搞笑的辦法去保持美麗的謊話。這大概不是主角說的Cyrano方法，後者令我想起法國片“大鼻子情聖”。電影裏的法國情聖是能文能武的，可對自己“大鼻”外觀有自卑感，未敢向他暗戀的表妹表白，到離世前一刻才真相大白。這樣一個故事，在這資信爆炸的年代只是不現實的瞳景而已。

先看看這老建築吧。這是香港一九五零年代的中區警察宿舍。你要找零排碳的大廈？不用絞盡腦汁，這簡單的設計就不用冷氣。現在多花巧的節能大廈也必比不上這建築群。

Les édifices qui conservent l'energie? On n'a pas besoin de chercher loin, franchement. Un HLM pour les policiers marriés à Central de Hong Kong, bâti dans les années 1950s, se montre dans ces photos des structures simples. De plus, les habitants n'avaient pas de climatiseurs. Cela, pas des jargons technologiques, nous délivre des solutions pratiques! Pourquoi choisit-on toujours des chemins difficiles?

You want a zero-carbon building? All the fancy engineering and aesthetic designs might not be up to par with an old and simple structure like the Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters, built in the 1950s. Why? A walk along the corridors and one can see the ventilation and the circulation that would make air-conditoning obsolete. Why can't energy solutions be low tech, simple and actually work? This site will serve more than just an artists hangout in the future, if my crystal ball serves me well!

Le pont de Yangtze à Wuhan n'est pas une structure magnifique ces jours-ci. Mais quand il était bati, il a diminué le temps à traverser la fleuve de une demi-journée à simplément quelques minutes. Il est aussi LE PREMIER PONT sur Yangtze. Les piétons peuvent marcher tout le long du pont, pas de barrière qui bloque votre vue sur la ville, sans risque de monsieur quelconque se suicide en sautant!

這不是一道起眼的建築，但是武漢長江大橋是第一條橫貫長江的橋。它建成時把火車過河的時間從大半天減為幾分鐘。從前火車可能要一節一節的車廂“坐”在船上運過去。現在建的橋也不能讓你--一般的行人在無障礙的情況下走在上面，因不怕你跳橋自殺才怪！

It is a structure with some Soviet expertise assistance at the beginning, but China and the former USSR were drifting apart as the bridge was built. Walking on Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, aka the first bridge over the Yangtze on a windy and cold December night did make me feel its grandeur, given it was completed when China lacked modern infrastructures.

Il y a des panneux qui s'affichent des publicités remplies de sondages électroniques! C'est un peu radicule comme la plupart des cocitoyens pékinois portent une vie modique. Mais, la Chine, comme décrit les États-Unis dans la décennie 1990s dans "Technopoly", un ouvrage de M. Neil Postman, essayiste, professeur sur les médias et la technologie: les États-Unis, c'est un pays qui ne croit que la technologie. La Chine, il me semble, les suit.

I dunno if this is a relevant reference but with its citizens still living in primitive living conditions (yes even in Beijing, provided you are not filthy rich), this interactive electronic poll/advertisement really caught my attention. Quoting Neil Postman, who wrote in his book Technopoly,in the early 1990s, that the USA is the only country surrendering its culture to technology. Back then I thought Japan, if not other pockets of geographical regions, should also be on the list. To this date, given the picture taken in this blog entry, one can be the judge on classifying China on culture and technology.

奧運過去一年多了，所謂“名店”也已進駐前門商業街。2010年元月一個寒冷的晚上，我重遊此地，華燈下的感覺依然像聖誕多於新年。成都的寬窄巷、上海的新天地、福州的三坊七巷在生意至上的態度下勢必成為外貌相似而骨子里心有靈犀的兄弟姐妹了！

Plus d'un an après les jeux olympiques, je reviens à QianMen dans une soirée gelante et 100% nordique. Les boutiques et les magasins de grand marques se sont installés. Les lumières et les décorations donnent plutôt un air de Noël que nouvel an.

Qian Men, a year after the Olympics, when most brand name stores have settled in, welcomed the few lonely shopppers and visitors on a frigid January night with its Christmas-like lighting and decorations.

這207分鐘長的紀錄片，有三部分。
第一部分：
旁述說國王的名字入了史冊，是他們搬了石頭嗎？長城是由奴隸建成的，不同意工作的都被推倒在一旁。
務農、養豬、人民公社、喂鵝、在天安門拍照的人們組成這在文革年代拍的紀錄片。對西方人比較“驚訝”的一面，要選一段醫院里用針灸麻醉一孕婦和剖腹產子那十幾分鐘。

北京於那年代還是封塵的舊城、矮小的樓房。天壇對這拍攝隊來說是神聖和神秘的。長安劇場是表演木偶劇和大眾喜歡的地方。

第二部分鏡頭往南移，來到河南的林縣貧窮是日常生活的寫照。一份低工資工作，加糧食保障，便是人民公社裏能提供給村民的。這是實驗的地區，水壩、去水道等基礎建設只是用極簡單工具開山破石而成的。再往南一點，較富有的南京（雖然皇朝留下來建築所剩無幾）和水鄉蘇州。對意大利人來說，魚米之鄉定能跳起威尼斯的回憶和比較。這部分在幼兒園學童的表演下結束。

第三部分提及毛澤東是十二個開國黨員中唯一一個還剩下來的，其他不是死掉便是被批鬥。鏡頭轉到上海豫園，相對農村前者是附庸風雅的旅遊點。上海在七十年代也是最繁榮的地方，但是像工廠這樣國家動力的地方，也是用破爛的廢物一點點的疊成的，聽見也有點害怕呢。在一連串精彩的雜技表演中完結了這三個多小時的紀錄片。

中國導演劉海平在安東尼奧尼去世前訪問他，老年的“大師”語言表達已差不多沒有了，也許舊中國也跟著這外國人成為歷史。

Chung Kuo - Cina

C'est un documentaire fait par réalisateur italien Michelangelo Antonioni.

En plein coeur de la revolution culturelle en 1972, ce film montre un periode où la Chine était presque entièrement enfermée, à part de quelques 'amis' étrangers. J'ai pensé que le documentaire réagi comme une fenêtre, avec ou sans des préjugés occidentaux. Une femme enceinte, des villageois de Lin Xian (prefecture Lin), de la province Henan, l'équivalent de Venice en Chine- Suzhou, l'usine shanghaise simple mais évidemment de niveau élevé par standard chinois. Ce film n'était pas disponible publiquement en Chine jusqu'à des années 2000. La raison a été démasqué dans le documentaire de Liu Haiping sur Antonioni. La machine de propagande dans kes années 60s a considéré Antonioni avait sali des images de citoyens chinois en montrant leurs vies simples et grossières.

早前参加了梅晓红(Aurore Merle)法裔清华大学社会学博士后研究员关于中国社会学的讲座。她提到的两个名字其实我一听过，可是从前没有把他们当作社会学家而已。严复和康有为皆有把外语的文献翻成中文著作。另一个之前没留意的学者是费孝通。从前我也没有想到，社会学这名词亦是偶然的机会战胜群学而来的。回想起来社会也是一群人，所以叫群学也无不可。至于名字的真正来源，众说纷纭，讲者和与会人的观点也不一致。一说是日本的影响，另议社会的观念，故曰社会学。

Que nous enseigne l’histoire de la sociologie en Chine? C'était le titre une conférence que J'y ai assisté.Donné par la Dre Aurore Merle, chercheuse française post-doctorat à l'Université Tsinghua. C'est toujours amusant à voir des sinologues étrangers qui ont poursuit des études sur la Chine. Des yeux étrangers nous disent des observations que échappent des chinois. Le développement du domaine de sociologie n'était pas direct du tout. À la fin de 19ème siecle, des oeuvres ont été traduits en chinois petit à petit. Comme domaine d'études la sociologie a pris une forme profesionalisé vers 1930s. Lorsque des décennés 1950-80, tout a été interrompu, car le savoir-faire était consideré bourgeoise et des études du capitalisme.

Néanmoins, il y avait des étudés ciblées sur l'agricole économique, les travailleurs, etc au lieu de la sociologie.

What did sociology in China teach us? That was the topic of a talk by French post-doctoral researcher Aurore Merle at Tsinghua University. Yan Fu and Kang You Wei, whom I did not associate with as sociologist but had quite profound influence and visibility in the then evolving China at end of Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic under shaky KuoMintang. Professionalisation of the field happened around the 1930s. However, after the communists came to power, essentially the three decades from 1950s all the way to the end of 1970s, research was stopped although there were studies on agricultural economics and on (blue collar) workers. Controversial subjects to this day are not handled 100% openly. However, the field does have its independence, rather than "fulfilling" certain specific functions as required by the central government.

La Muraglia Cinese qui fait partie du festival La Cina nella telecamere dell'Occidente (Chine dans les caméras de l'Ouest) - a inaugurazioné la première soirée de projection des documentaires sur la Chine.
ce film a commencé par une vue aérienne suffisement étrange mais graduellement devenait de plus en plus familière, celle de Hong Kong! Quel bizzare commencement mais si, les petites maisons resemblaitent une carte postale de Corse ou île Maurice. Hong Kong était peu développé. Le montage démontre plustot des femmes partant des jupes ou des bikinis colorés. Franchement, je n'aime pas les portraits des femmes présentes ici.

Néanmoins, selon le directeur Carlo Lizzani, les montages sur Hong Kong étaitent exigence du gouvernement d'Italie car l'Ouest connaissait peu de la Chine communiste et cette dernière faisait peur sur beaucoup de gens. Donc, les bikinis signifient 'des femmes modernes et libérées' déclarait une opinion italienne dans ce l'ère de la guerre froide.
D'autrement, le caméra a suivi des gens dans les fleuves pittoresques à Guangxi, une jeune fille et son marriage 'arrangé' par les parents. Le tour est ascendu au sommet par le parade des travailleurs dans la capitale Pechino avant de tourner à Hong Kong.

中國長城是西方鏡頭中的中國電影節放映的六套紀錄片之一。令我驚喜的是本片的開始和結束皆在香港。影片拍攝的是1950年代，香港也只不過像一個小漁港一樣。然而在對導演Carlo Lizzani 的解釋是意大利官方要求他把開始和結束放在香港，寓意那年代的中國大陸以外還有中國的另一面。拍了大陸的鏡頭其中一些有廣西的風景、童養媳的悲哀、北京在國慶日的萬人空巷、彩旗飄揚等等。

老實說，紀錄片內的香港像是“蘇絲黃”那類電影一樣的刻板印象，可好我看過導演的訪問，電影裏的美中不足之處也許是“政治犧牲”吧。

Alors, espérant l'ouverture qui se trouve dans des journaux va porter des vrais améliorations concrètes.

The quasi governmental voice Globaltimes.cn published an editoral that, according to the Ministry of Finance, 20% of Chinese government expenditure was spent on vehicles, dining, wining and overseas travel! Transparency is a first step, but this big fat government does have a lot of room for leaning its spending. It would have been scandulous in a developed country with such figures. The challenge of ridding corruption and extravagant expenses is a must for this developing country, or else the gap between the powerless and the powerful, the poor and the rich will derail whatever that has been achieved economically.

Ça fait quelques mois que j'ai vu un film français à Pékin. Le Doulos, un film de 1962 m'a donné ma rentrée ici. C'est un film noir qui décrit l'histoire de deux amis gangsters. Selon des revues publiés ailleurs c'est un des classiques de film noir. Une intrigue convaincante, pas rafinée comme des hollywoodiennes mais plutôt plus réelle que les dernières.

Le film a été présenté en version originale française, sous-titré en anglais. Le fait que j'avais pas une compréhension de 100 pourcent et la temptation de lire les textes anglais m'ont rendu au centre d'un jeu de poursuite intellectuelle.

眼線，一部黑色電影，本劇似乎是這類片的代表作之一(雖然我不太懂欣賞)，但很久沒有在北京看法語片了。也許如此，自己拿不定主意在用心聽法語和看英文字幕之間徘徊，加上情節復雜，是近期看得比較吃力的一條片子。

民眾樂園 minzhong leyuan

這不是武漢的景點，但是民眾樂園是頗有歷史的地方。1929這裏曾經開過來自英、美、蘇、日、法、朝鮮、印尼等國的勞工代表開會的地方。Minzhong Leyuan, à Hankou, qui fait partie de Wuhan, Chine, était le lieu de conférence des syndicaliste en 1929. Je ne sais pas si c'était relié au gens de l'Organisation internationale du travail (OIT), mais la présence semblait impressionnante, vue que l'URSS, les É-U, le Japon, la Grande Bretagne et la France, etc. y ont assisté.

It's dome is not quite as big as the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore di Firenze, but it IS il Duomo (sans Cattedrale) of Hankou, or all of Wuhan. No I don't think the function of this leyuan in Wuhan was never religious!

Meilleurs vœux pour 2010? Même si je suis à Pékin, après une soirée bruyante chez un couchsurfeur, le déroulement des événements à Hong Kong serait assez chauffé aujour d'hui, le jour de l'an. La construction de la section hongkongaise de Train à Grande Vitesse en Chine, le droit de vote universel pour élire les députés de conseil legislatif sont deux des enjeux majeurs protestent les gens. 看看這升降機裏的樓層，有某一些改了，取代的是3A, 12A, 12B和23A。看來跟
天匯的“跳樓”不完全一樣，也沒有39跳60樓，68跳88樓的情況，但基本上同出一轍！香港的討論已提及，如果有火警發生的時候，找不到發生事故的那層樓，真可能有危險啊！

從消失了的樓層，你知道照片裏這棟樓位於那個城市嗎？

Call it avoiding the misfortune, or welcoming your wealth, floors in highrises in China could go missing in action. Take the one photographed above or 39 Conduit Road in Hong Kong. In the latter, floors "jump" from 12 to 15, 23 to 25, 33 to 35, 39 to 60, 63 to 66 to 68 to 88. Can it be more confusing than that? Don't joke about it should fire broke out, whether the firefigthers can locate the right floors could be a real challenge!

By the way, can you guess what city is the building photographed located, given the missing floors?

崇洋的中國人搞聖誕比西方人還熱烈。但是你可要知道這是消費主導的現象，而不是在每年的年底，整個社會都變成基督教聖地。

Holidays cuz it is the way for many non-religious folks, even it is IN NO WAY a public holiday in China. I chime in only because I got bombarded with consumer driven lightings and what not, both in Beijing and as well as in Hong Kong.

Christmas Eve in Beijing at 11:30pm was surprisingly vibrant given a sand-storm like weather conditions. Credit it with the ole mighty globalisation.

綠色武漢？un Wuhan vert ?

環保高峰會不成功，不代表所有環保的項目也停下來。我想在世界各地，很多城市也有像武漢這單車出租站一樣的環保措施。很多中國城市的污染都非常嚴重，總不能坐以待斃嗎！任何小小減碳排放的機會也不應該放過。COP 15 était un échec, mais ça n'égale pas d'arrêter tous ce que l'on fait maintenant. Les petits gestes comptent, toujours. Le cas photographié ici, à Wuhan, comme dans des plusieurs villes d'ailleurs, montre un service de location des bicyclettes. Cela sera un grand défi pour la Chine où les citoyens veulent un style de vie comparable a celle de l'Occident.

十一月的再見一個接一個，先有牛頭角下邨，幾天後輪到龍門大酒樓。其實龍門的菜不是那麼好，進門里面的感覺像是紐約唐人街的舊餐館。大概是它的歷史比口碑還重要。曾幾何時，它是第一間有冷氣的酒樓，它的大包也很受歡迎。跟北島、中華人民共和國一樣，也是1949年“生”的。龍門挨到第六十個年頭便說再見，為甚麼？如果地產商給你四億港幣的話，你會不會乖乖就範？

十一月三十號最後的龍門晚宴三百塊一個人，對我這個不常在港島的新界仔來說太貴了。因此提早幾個晚上到那里用餐。一味鴛鴦雞(蒸田雞和雞)倒不錯，是個完美的結局吧。聽說老板會找新地方重開酒樓，希望能成事啦。傳統，比食物的口感還重要。

The food was mediocre, more like those huge, coarsely presented buns and dim sums in New York Chinatown restaurants, or perhaps that's what the 1960s looked like? Lung Mun closed its doors in its 60th year of operation. The decor looked dated, but was quite refine when it started running and up til the 1980s. Afterall, that was the first dim sum restaurant to be air-conditioned. In the spirit of the ever developing Hong Kong, some real estate developer offered HKD400 million to the own for the plot of land on Johnston Road in Wanchai. Rumors have the restaurant owner looking for a place to reopen, let's keep our fingers crossed.

如果五十多分報紙可以一起出一篇氣候變化危機的社論，那麼不參加的大國內里的大報就更令人尴尬了。

另一方面，加拿大的在COP 15 表現強差人意也談不上，而是不負責任。雪上加霜的是一個非常厲害的笑話
agenda 2020。可惜沒法做得到，要不然這玩笑里的要求還是不錯的

Shame Canada!
I am usually proud of my adoptive country, but not when the Canadian government is hiding behind the United States of ASSes' derrière when they set the (close to nothing) target of reduction of green house gases. None of the major papers from US of Asses' signed on to the joint editorial spearheaded by the guardian, of which there were more than 50 cosigners. Isn't that some defacto tell-tale sign of how (un) progressive a country is?

A dismal 15% 10% 5%? whatever! Just shameful! No more distinguishing the gentile, polite Canadians. We are as nasty as the yankees, seriously. Can't really blame the international opinion when the Canadian government represents us irresponsibly internationally. And they deserved to be pranked! Actually the criteria set in the hoax would have been concrete and nice.

這電影節是我繼去年的歐盟電影節以後最大的收獲。這回看過大概十齣電影，其中最震撼非全球時限莫屬。所有關於社會公義的問題都從鏡頭另一端的訪問提及。不管是特殊教育老師、北非的移民，這些非專業演員在投入他們時光倒流的十九世紀巴黎公社內角色的同時，現實生活的二十世紀裏社會問題還是想影子般的跟我們形影不離。時限早已過了，起義吧!

The Universal Clock: The Resistance of Peter Watkins by chance when I was attending one of the screenings Hong Kong

While i am not pretending to be Roger Eber, but if you watch only a film per year, this documentary should be the ONE to watch. I 've asked myself how come I 've never heard of it when I was in Canada all those years, especially I was doing NGO and community work. The camera of Geoff Bowie follows the Peter Watkins' filming of the epic La commune (Paris, 1871). The many actors who participated in Watkin's project are just ordinary folks. However, they all have stories to tell.
Resistance? What are we talking about here? The Six-hour long La Commune couldn't fit quite well into the universal clock of the buyers at MIP. For the pleasure of self-discovery, I leave the details for you to find out when you are lucky enough to see the film someday. What are the
ordinary folks resisting? Have la republic, after all those turmoil years and the various constitutional republics (now the fifth republic), rid herself of all the social injustice? The answer is more than obvious, the challenge is to raise awareness and find solutions

Horloge universelle: la résistance de Peter Watkins
comme je suis assez fier d'avoir appris de ce documentaire canadien. La mondialisation accélère l'écart economique et magnifie les problèmes sociaux. Watkins est ambitieux ou peut être suffisamment courageux à lutter les limitations dans notre société actuellement.

De quelles résistances parlant le film? La commercialisation et la standardisation des programmation de TV? Le cri pour la justice par les cocitoyens? La guerre pour l'égalité, peut-elle regrouper des gens universellement? C'est un film incontournable si vous voulez le remue-méninges.

這是2009年7、1遊行時拍的。香港已經達工業發達國家的生活水平(平均國民生產總值在世界前30名)，但居民，商界，政府的環保意識還是很落後。其實我們大部份人皆是氣候逃犯，不單是“勿當奴”。

Climate fugitive, so reads a campaign poster greeting marchers and bystanders at the annual 1st July march in Hong Kong. This city, with a per capita GDP in the word's top 30 (2008 figures) is still hiding behind its developing motherland - China, to avoid doing more for the environment. The local government really does have an obligation to do more! Did you know Hong Kong might loose its winter season altogether in 20 years if the current trends continues?

International Poetry Nights 香港國際詩歌之夜

J'ai trouvé cet événement par hazard, lorsque j'étais dans une séance de film auprès un ONG. Mais tout tomblait bien comme j'y ai assisté des récitations publiques. Une fois, ciblée pour les écoliers, complète avec des introductions musicales et des présentations powerpoint. Une chose que je dois critiquer, est que l'on n'a pas réussi à maximiser la capacité d'accueil. C'est à dire le département de relation publique peut parfaire la vulgarisation encore ou les hongkongais sont indifférents par rapport aux activitiés culturelles. Si ce dernier domine, les coordonnateurs de projet West Kowloon Cultural District a de travaux durs que les attendent.

北島的名字聽過不少次，但今次還才是第一次見。看着在節目表上寫的詩人的國家（地方），總是有點兒怪怪的，因為北島是歸於香港，而不是中國。大概是離家，（還是漂泊？）太久吧，我提出一個普通關於中國前途的問題時，他叫我去讀他的詩，推說不能三言兩語說清楚。唉！要是外國的詩人，你看還不會滔滔不絕的發表個人的見解嗎？我看中國人的無形擔子依然重得很,特别是對生於一九四九年的一代！希望北島老師在中大有家的感覺和創作的靈感，繼續發揮文字的影響力。

世界愛滋病日 World AIDS Day

Le communiqué par deux organismes promouvant les droits de travailleurs du sexe nous dirige vers un des problèmes à Hong Kong avec la police et le système judiciaire. Les médias, autrement, étaient silencieux sauf un reportage sur les hommes ayant des relations sexuelles avec d’autres hommes ont encore une prévalence de VIH plus élevé que d'autres groupes.

現在警方在處理賣淫場所的案件中「安全套入罪」，會使到性工作的姐仔哥仔對性工作者團體派套不表歡迎，生怕他們收到的安全套，會成為令到他們身陷囹圄的證據。

另一邊廂，高耀潔醫生要在美國發布她的新書，這對中國對抗愛滋病的問題一再發出一個警號。

1st December is World AIDS Day. Mainstream media reports in Hong Kong were few and far from front page on this day. Some newspapers ran a piece on continued high HIV prevalence in men who have sex with men (MSM). They did not report on a press release by Zi Teng and Midnight Blue, advocacy groups for sex workers. Their
A Declaration of Stopping the Use of Condoms as evidence in court
touched directly on in public health terms a harm reduction issue. Given the fact the judicial system and the police continue to use condoms as incriminating evidence of sex trade, people will resend outreach workers giving them condoms, for fear that would haunt them if they get caught by the police. On a separate note, the aging Dr. Gao Yaojie had to have her book's press conference OUTSIDE of China sent another alarming signal about how China is handling this epidemic. Transpency still has a lot of room for self-improvement there.

上面的報紙甲說一千多人。
下面的報紙乙說三千多......
如果是甚麼統計的錯誤，那個不對的百分比就變成十分之大咯。
三千是一千的300%，反過來一千也是三千的33%啊！任何有點兒公平的調查也不可能發生這樣的誤差！

那我們應該相信誰？

信抗議的人吧！他們沒有政府資助，幹嘛花時間在他們認為不對而且常常被抹黑的社會運動項目上？

善用公帑不要富人融合締造公平公義社會
1129反高鐵停撥款大遊行

香港有些第一，我們不想要：
我們不想要樓價世界第一。
我們不想要貧富懸殊在已發展地區第一。
我們也不要用六百五十億，建全世界最貴的鐵路。

一條廣深港高速鐵路香港段的規劃，徹底暴露了香港特區政府的病態管治：

奉承權貴‧濫用公帑：
高鐵是奉中央和特區權貴的旨令，傾全城之力替富裕階層開路到西九龍，再以「整體利益」和「邊緣化」等說辭威脅市民埋單的騙局。26公里的高鐵造價由去年的 395億飈升至超過650億，全球最貴，也是回歸以來最大的一筆過開支。新造的跨境基建，如深圳灣大橋和落馬洲支線，客量明明遠差於估計，政府偏偏要繼續不惜工本再造一條富豪鐵路。香港有很多基本問題，如教育、醫療或基層就業都更需要這筆錢，奈何市民的聲音一直被壓制。

欺善怕惡‧劫貧濟富：
政府規劃高鐵，專挑弱勢社群做犧牲品，隱藏社會成本以減省經濟成本。在新界逼遷石崗菜園村的老人社區建車廠，在市區則強制收回大角嘴十四幢舊樓的地層，並且利用欺負弱勢的法律和制度，假資訊、假諮詢、假賠償。毀人家園、踩在弱勢頭上建高鐵，誰能昧著良心乘搭？

破壞生態‧難以持續：
政府口講可持續發展，但每屆特區政府都好大喜功，把跨境基建當政績工程，漠視香港鄉郊的可持續發展和本地農業的維護。香港的環境影響評估制度對大型基建只管開綠燈，漠視多項基建的累積環境影響。高鐵香港段為市區帶來嚴重噪音，又穿過錦田和米埔等重要農業和生態地帶，環評報告粗疏錯漏仍獲批准，令人憤怒。

行政專斷‧缺乏諮詢：
特區政府和權貴賤視市民參與權利，從沒有就高鐵規劃認真諮詢市民意見，亦沒有發放足夠資訊讓民間社會能展開多元討論。到後來，菜園村村民不甘受屈站出來抗爭，民間專業者亦努力提出預計能節省數百億元的新方案，政府不單不珍惜機會溝通，反而以宣傳機器盡力抹黑，手段卑劣。

過去一年，我們在不同的社區、不同的位置就廣深港高鐵現方案提出質疑，但政府一直充耳不聞，如今立法會財務委員會即將於十二月初審議高鐵撥款在即，我們必須集合力量，讓重視公平、公義和可持續發展的聲音更有力地傳開。零九年十一月廿九日星期日下午，我們將會舉行「反高鐵停撥款大遊行」，表達對高鐵現方案的不滿，並要求立法會財務委員會否決高鐵現方案撥款，讓社會有時間從詳計議，為600多億公帑找出更恰當的用途。

Ngau Tau Kok Lower Eastate, une des HLM plus ancienne à Kowloon, a été mis en fin en novembre 2009, après preque 40 ans de service. Dans une ville où quatre édifices au siege social de la banque HSBC ont été démolies et reconstruites sur le même site pendant moins de 150 ans à cause de manque d'espace, ce point de fermature n'étonne pas les piétons qui passent par là en route à la station MTR. Néanmoins, pour les enfants qui ont grandi là-bas, pour les réfugiés et nouveaux arrivants de la Chine continentale dans les années 60s ou 70s, c'était où ils ont développé et bati 'chez eux'. Le plan de redéveloppement vise à reconstruire des tours plus grandes et plus modernes. Côté des organisateurs communautaires, ils ont commencé leur campagine de sauver les bâtisses nos. 13 et 14, et les convertir au centre communautaire / multi-fonnctionels au lieu d'un grand batîment cher. À noter que ces structures complétés dans les 1960s sont simples et probablement plus écologique que les gratte-ciels neufs! On n'utilisait pas de climatiseur 24 sur 24 au passé modeste! J'espère que le gouvernement les écoute, comme des bureaucrates qui habitent pas dans le quartier connaissent moins que des citoyens.

Ngau Tau Kok Lower Estate, 1969 - 2009. One of the trailbazers of Hong Kong Housing Authority's developments in the ever rapidly changing Hong Kong was sealed off officially on 25 November 2009. The last remaining towers would be torn town for eventual rebirth, taller and better equipped with amenities. Goodbye was sad though, as the local buzzwords "collective memory" resurfaced again as much of our memory was again erased as a result. Community residents are mobilising to save Blocks 13 and 14, which are joined together like the letter T. Their rationale? It will better serve as a memory of the 1960s style of housing as well as providing space for recreation and cultural purposes, instead of building from the ground up again a new, cross district (Kwun Tong-Ngau Tau Kok) cultrual centre. My two cents? I will side with the average citizens advocating this idea as the various government departments handling urban redevelopment and housing projects do not have a throuough understanding of the areas they are trying to 'revitalise'.

(Two Lost in a Dirty Night)

Un flim qui pourrait bien faire réflechir des enjeux de santé mentale, d'identité sexuelle et de orientation sexuelle. Mais 2 Perdidos numa Noite Suja. La violence, le manque de sécurité d'être sans abri, sans revenue et sans papiers mélagent un cocktail de disastre pour nos protagonistes. À survive dans la Big Apple ne serait pas facile.

這部可以是同志議題的電影，也可以是跨性別議題的作品。沒有身份的移民生活基本上不會好到哪里，如果再加上身份認同的問題那就更加困難了。兩個主角在城市森林生存的小故事、他們之間迷糊和時好時壞的關係，對看厭了荷里活電影的朋友，是不錯的選擇。

Sometimes films don't have to carry labels to excel in categories that they would not have been pigeon boxed into. 2 Perdidos numa Noite Suja is one good example. Two Brazilians who crossed paths in New York City, at some points using, relying on, threatening, loving, hating, abandonning one another, weaved the story of a middle age man whose expatriate and immigrant "dream" came and escaped, and a sometimes schizophenic if not bipolar youngster's life on the streets of New York selling "its" body. "Its" attributing to the fact that the character flips gender roles as if we are changing clothes on a daily basis. It does provide a lot of food for thought in this multi-layered chronicle of life in the NYC. The two extremes love-hate, on-and-off and symbiotic versus betrayal interactions of the two protagonists will sure make you appreciate the skillfulness of the storyteller.

最近看了兩個從前香港的大明星的展覽。對梁醒波當然不曾是粵語片時代的回憶，而是歡樂今宵的印象，(肥肥)沈殿霞也是。電視對七、八十年代一日千里的香港有着無遠無遠弗屆的影響。

照片裏的明星你認得出多少個呢？

在香港文化博物館關於肥肥的專題展覽播放她的歌“一於繼續笑”有點兒傷感，畢竟機器播放的笑聲如舊，奈何已人去樓空。

My visits to two exhibitions paying tibute to them brought back memories from my childhood. The influence of TVB in Hong Kong was more omnipresent than the TV-fixated Americans as described by Neil Postman in Amusing Ourselves to Death.

Une ami m'a dit que la culture brasilienne est tellement sexualisée. Je suis assez certain qu'elle n'a pas vu le film 'Cidade Baixa (Lower City)'. La convergence de son opinion et l'impression que j'ai enlevée de ce montage propagone la perception que je tiens. Deux gars dans leur début vingtaine et une fille a,vec elle la rélation sexuelle et amoureuse touche ces trois personnages principles. Les forces d'amitié, de passion, d'amour, de jalousie et de violence se battent et déterminent leur destin alterné. Comme j'ai commenté sur des films colombiens, les Chinois, nous n'avons pas encore le courage à montrer des films si intense sur les sujets si controversés au milieu des festivals de film chinois.

奧巴馬上任美國總統以來中國大陸和港澳等地的中文譯名是奧巴馬，而臺灣一般是用歐巴馬。很有趣的是奧巴馬之行前幾天，一些中文報紙報道說美國駐華大使館把奧改成歐。香港還是“親中”的，因為廣東話的O還是跟奧發音差不多。至於閩南話的歐是不是發音像O，我就不得而知了。希望這小小的插曲不會變成外交風波吧。
Obama visits China for the first time, and a few days before his visited, Chinese newspaper reported the American Embassy's official tranlsation of Obama would switch from 奧巴馬 to 歐巴馬, the former currently in use in mainland China and Hong Kong SAR, the latter in Taiwan. While neither is a perfectionist 100% transliteration of the non-English origin of the alphabets "Obama", it will be interesting to observe if this small linguistic "fine-tuning" would evolve into subtitle political arm twisting.

C'était le slogan bilingue pour la deuxième parade de la fierté lesbienne, gai, bisexuel(le) et transgendre à Hong Kong. Le défilé hongkongais est petit par rapport à celui de Taipei, sans même parler de ceux de Montréal, Toronto ou New York. Néanmoins, pour une ville qui proclaime toujours 'la ville internationale en Asie', un événement nourrit un étape miniscule mais incontourable pour le mouvement social local.

香港的遊行比不上臺北，更遑論蒙特利爾，多倫多和紐約了。然而對於近年社會問題多多的香港，這是眾多的社會運動的一小步。沒有一步一步的努力，社會問題只會像在壓力煲失控時發生爆炸一樣，到時才解決便困難得多了。開句舊話的玩笑：革命尚未成功，同志們仍需努力!

With many groups from Hong Kong joining the march, which otherwise could be seen as an act of parachuting, the 2nd Hong Kong pride parade was festive and boisterous. For a city with modern external hardware and structures, but rotten, twisted, obscure, hypocritical internal ethical values, this was a hesitant, second baby step. Don't expect any great leap forward soon, but the LGBT HongKongers and their allies deserve a pat on their backs, don't you think?

這三部曲絕對和巴金的激流三部曲沒有任何關係。我在此寫的是三齣於香港的巴西電影節的影片。我進場的時候倒沒太多的期望，然而每一部劇都令我有不同的驚喜。

Bossa Nova 的女主人公是一個里約熱內盧的英語教師，一個剛失婚的中年律師對她為之跟著迷。更加有趣的是旁邊的其他五，六個角色之感情關係,如一根根絲緊緊的編織成“一匹布”。

Bossa Nova, parlons nous ici pas de style de dance ni de musique brasilien, mais le film du même titre. Ce film me semble une production américaine, même si le réalisateur est brésilien. Il y en a des acteurs américians, dont Amy Irving, la divorcée de Steven Spielberg. Elle était mariée avec Bruno Barreto, le réalisateur, lorsque la sortie du film. Comme j'ai vu ce film grace au consulat general du Brésil à Hong Kong, serait-il une image concurrentielle comme hollywoodienne que les brésiliens veulent nous présenter?

Le rituel, qui célébre son 130ème anniversaire cette année, était pour chasser les diables. Ces jours-ci, il est un arrêt incontournable pour des plusieurs touristes locaux et internationaux.

有一百三十年歷史的大坑舞火龍，我今年還是第一次去看。每年的中秋節一連三晚都有在大坑范圍內的街道遊行。除了舞龍，還有鑼鼓。跟其他很多節令一樣，這習俗源於把不好的運氣驅走。要知道嗎，火龍身上插的全是香燭,不用說牛鬼蛇神，普通旁觀的人也薰得暈暈到，特別是在準備的時候。習俗經過一百多年，已變成一個本地和外來逰客的中秋節目。

Mid-autumn festival in Hong Kong means fire dragon parade in Tai Hang. The drgon, dotted with joss sticks all along, is longer than a city block. The parade and 'dance', completed with drummers transcend the streets in the neighbourhood for three consecutive nights. Though I am born and raised in Hong Kong, this was only my FIRST time seeing the parade, which marked the 130th anniversary in 2009! Being a tourist in your hometown could be nice.

Il y a deux semaines que j'ai assisté à une conférence nommée (vaguement traduite) 'La disparition de Hong Kong'. Un universitaire a suggéré bien que les spectacles dex jeux olympiques 2008 à Pékin ont resemblé des milliers des participants pour une image incroyable, c'était pas assez puissant comme celui donné par les britanniques dans la cérémonie de clôture. La raison, des milliers sans visage et un Beckham clairement visible. Je ne suis pas tout à faire d'accord avec le monsieur conférencier, la pensée va faire parler aux gens, particulairement les chinois, qui suivent le développement du pays dont son parti fête le 60ème.

我其實不是對這一天百分百滿意的。我指的不是表演的瑕疵，而是背後的哲學。在 C for Culture 的一個研討會上，一學者說去年的北京奧運表演萬人中不見一人，但是閉幕禮的英國部分，Beckham一人清晰可見。學者是怕“以一人敵萬人”的情況。我雖然不同意他的說法，但是中國人謙虛點，對長遠的發展不無好處。畢竟這幾年中國人的浮華和“豪氣”的表現和行為比比皆是。

西班牙加泰羅尼亞自治區塔拉薩市的街道。 2007曾到此一遊，留下深刻印象，將來必定會再來。

Terrassa, of the autonomic Catalunya region of Espanya - (yeah I used the Català, instead of Castellano spellings, provided I doubled checked myself correctly out of respect for this region) has a vibrant cultural presence. The multilingual coexistence that had shown here stretches as far North as in Toulouse in France fascinates me. I wouldn't mind spending a few months to a year there in the future.

Wie geht es Ihnen? Sasha Cohen's German in Brüno reminds me of Jamie Lee Curtis's Swedish or German school girl impersonation on a train in Trading Places. The former pushed a few limits, tackling the gay subject in a very in-your-face manner. The über flamboyant Brüno might have perpetuated the pre-existing stereotypes of gay men in different societies. It's worth more than a few laughs. Actually, you might be cracking up rauciously from start to finish.

Some of the simulated sex acts shown might be over the top, but in no way were they homophobic. Well, for some of the people pranked, their feelings could be different. Just how comfortable are we under our own skin? What if you are challenged by the differences from socially or culturally divergent groups, would you be able to remain cool?

bilinguisme vu en France

Changement de direction de prononciation à bilinguisme. Voici un affiche à Toulouse dans les les Pyrénées, pas si loin de la frontière espagnole. Je ne savais pas si c'était Catalan ou Occitane. Mais ils ressemblent les cousins de langues d'oïl, déjà remplacé par le français moderne.

J'aimerais savoir la perception publique auprès les gens qui parlent des langues (ou dialectes) régionaux. S'agit-il une faute de sophistication?

Sud de la frontière, dans la région autonome de Catalonia, le Català est utilisé comme la langue offcielle, au lieu de castellano (español), même si près que tous les citoyens locaux comprennet ce dernier.
On vit dans un monde plus hétérogene que l'on pensait!

繼續上次的香港方言之談，這回講講砌生豬肉。為甚麼會這樣叫呢？原來從前警察審問疑犯的時候經常遇到需不需要 press charges 控告對方。 Charge 在廣東話像 砌生豬。可是這樣中文意思便不完整也不易記。終於砌生豬肉這詞便應運而生啦！

One year after the earthquake, a lot of the buildings in DuJiangYan are still waiting to be demolished or repaired. Many of the temples inside the historic Dujiangyan Irrigation System were damaged and are off-limited to tourists as of June 2009 when I visited. I have heard rumours that the construction of the Three Gorges Dam might have led to the violent earthquake. Whether it really caused the earthquake or not is not the primary concern now but I hope no further environmental mistakes will be made.都江堰在地震後一年多還沒有完全修復好。我曾經聽說三峽的工程可能間接造成地震的發生。無論如何，對環境的保護是很重要的，要不然不幸的事可能再發生。

Les Européans ont laissé beaucoup de traces en Chine, notamment à Hong Kong. Néanmoins, Tianjin est doté avec des maisons de style européanne, si on pourrait la surnommer comme ça.

Donc, ce n'est pas Hong Kong où l'on peut voir les invasions barbares, mais dans les plusieurs grandes villes chinoises aussi. Celle-ci est située dans le quartier qui s'appelle Wu Da Dao 五大道 (les cinq grands boulevards).

A friend of mine pointed me to this article reporting an "extreme" deodorant if you will. One must wonder if this is an American obession with (or the absence of) body odor? A "must-see-TV" on youtube featuring "Aspray".

Can you BELIEVE where those people are spraying their body parts?!?!? Beastly butt odor? Gee, this has become the nastiest blog entry on here to-date! hahaha. As commented by someone from his blog, this looked more like an SNL skit then a real commercial. On a second note, how about eating less meat or showering? Ain't those alternatives to the omnipresent Aspray? And what would people in the Victorian era think of this? hahaha

香港真是個華洋雑相處的地方。昨晚深夜看亞洲電視的舊節目“冷知識”有一項關於香港廣東話的趣聞。香港人喜歡說的口頭禪“巴閉”其實是印度人說的bapre，有一點“驚訝”、“很厲害”的意思。所以呢，我們對其他在港的少數民族要禮讓多點，因為他們跟我們生活已經很長時間，對我們的語言已發生影響。有一些更加是香港人呢！

The passing a pioneer in Asia, the first female president in the Philippines and in the same league as first female Asian prime ministers such as Indira Gandhi or Benazir Bhutto or Tansu Çiller.

Corazon did not bring about stable and better social, economic and political changes as remarked by Marites Vitug. She did however, influence her countrymen and countrywomen with her humanity. Almost all the subsequent presidents of Philippines wanted her stamp of approval since she represented someone free of corruption and scandal. Her country seems to have a longer way to go since ALL of her successors had at one point or another be suspected or tainted by political wrongdoings.

It seems Philippines is still stuck in the post-Marcos era. Only when the number of haves and have-nots redistribute significantly in this country, will there be real progress made.

She might also be a barometer test for all the overseas Chinese with political ambition. She was more at ease than the former Canadian figurehead "head-of-state" Adrienne Clarkson who did not even dare to land on Chinese soil during or after her tenure. Mrs Aquino visited China when she was president of the Philippines. Although one could always stipulate, as a head of state of a developing nation, her meeting with China's Deng Xiao Ping, the leader of a emerging power in Asia back then, was a nothing-to-lost but everything-to-gain situation for her country. Nevertheless, apart from the Singaporean prime ministers who visited China, she was the only head of state with Chinese roots who was not ashamed of her origins.
Steven Chu or Gary Locke wouldn't even come close in 2009, let alone they are not regional, provincial or national heads when they visited China. I bet you, without looking at the various Chinese language press in the United States that gave big fuzz about it. Oh, com'on (Chinese) Americans, make up your mind. You can't be both, just look at Obama.

With the solar eclipse fever in East Asia came and gone, here is my version of it, as seen through a very primitive pinhole made on cardboard in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. I went to the Planetarium but the queue was too long so I did not make it to the rooftop to use the telescopes provided to public. The last time I saw and paid attention to a solar eclipse was either 1992 or 1993 when I was on my college campus. Time flies !

Hong Kong bookfair 2009

So I was at the Hong Kong Book Fair for the first time, at least in its current format, even though it has been running for twenty years. I wasn't there to buy books for I knew that cheaper versions of many books are available across the border in Shenzhen. On occasion I attended three seminars which were quite interesting. The first one dealt with comics and popular culture, with special reference to Japanese culture. The second focused on a few photographers and their work, with converging themes on changing city landscape in Hong Kong, gentrification, urban renewal and redevelopment, and the loss of landmarks or structures of sentimental values to local HongKongers. The third one was on social entrepreneurship, it wasn't so ,uch on the books, but I am quite sure something published was promoted at the bookfair. Half of the discussion focused on BiCiLine, an intervention project at Tin Shui Wan supported by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.

Apart from the talks, I was quite astonished that my friend and I had to wait 20 minutes to get into the venue, given it was an ordinary Monday, even though schools are on summer vacation.
Some books in simplified chinese were marked up and then discounted, Ibet many unsuspecting customer fell victims to that, if they never if ever venture out to Shenzhen for procuring them. Political boundaries still make the books available and read by people of three different administrative regions of Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland of People's Republic of China, very different, at times with little overlapping. Books I found red hot and talk of the town everywhere in mainland China were available at a few of the booths selling simplified books, but still they mostly collected dust instead of finding a new owner. There are books tackling the very local Hong Kong (popular) culture including slangs, Cantonese as well as the dissatisfaction with the Cheif Executive. There were some interesting Taiwanese books, but given the fact I have been spoiled by dirt cheap books in the mainland, I did not really look into the Formosa offerings.

第三巴士No.3 bus

No, i am not talking about the bus route, but the bus company in Guangzhou (or Canton). It was refreshing, though in a mischievous kinda way that I was happy to note that the bus company used 巴士 "ba shi" instead of 公交 "gongjiao" because that was evidently a nod to the anglicism infiltrated into the local Cantonese dialect. One might wonder why I want to see "bad" Chinese usage of ba shi, buit I can tell you if that's the public concensus which shaped this expression, why not? It also enriches the Chinese vocabulary.

很高興在廣州看見第三“巴士”而不是第三“公交”...這證明廣州人也接納這受英語影響的詞。崇洋？不是，只不過這從外文翻過來的詞豐富了粵語而已。希望詞匯表達的多元化不會令人覺得“山高皇帝遠”，沒人管。

Après les allemands ce sont les indiens cette fois-ci. Alors pour 2009 l'Inde est invitée d'honneur pour la fête nationale française. Bien que je ne sois pas un fanatique des affaires militaires, le défilé est intéressant comme un téléspectacle sur TV5monde diffusé en direct par France2.

French culture carries NOT a very masculin image, given people think about French cuisine, fashion or perfume when they fantasize France. However, their Fête nationale is always a parade of various regiments of the military. This year, India is their guest of honnour so you would have seen the Indian military marching on the Champs-Élysées, carried live on TV5monde and France2.

聯想到法國文化，一般是美食、香水、時裝等，不是太男性化的形象。可是每年七月十四日的法國國慶，她的閱兵儀式比美國國慶、英女皇壽辰的更多、更顯眼。今年的嘉賓國是印度，在藍天白雲下TV5monde和France2轉播的步操、馬術表演等還是蠻不錯的。

So he is dead and everybody is talking about him. I THOUGHT I shouldn't be so critical, or should I? I do have a few not so nice anedotes, if you allow me to be the gossiping like Michael Musto or Cindy Adams, indirectly through comments I collected on the web:

Angela: The reports about Michael Jackson having a cardiac arrest are incorrect. He actually went to visit the children hospital and had a stroke

Brett: Do you mean that happens when he 'beat it'??

Cailin: well, looke like he 'beat it' for good now.

Duncan: Farrah Fawcett died and went to heaven. God told her he would grant her one wish. She wished for all the children in the world to be safe. Lo and behold later that day, MJ died.

The media, by contrast with the comments above, have been quite nice to Jackson. Nevertheless, he still share something in common with J. Edgar Hoover or Allen Ginsburg! yikes... and I am not talking about investigating others nor love for poetry.

If you think otherwise, perhaps Elizabeth Taylor (anyone recalls Rock Hudson?) and Brooke Shields (his platonic love?) would probably ring some bells.

Reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been visible and supportive. Given the "transformation" of Michael Jackson from the era of Billie Jean onwards and the at times unsympathetic media coverage of "Jacko", the black community has been more than gracious.

Enough of negative karma, Black and White, and Bad, are two of his songs that I like.
